As the seasons turn, so does our menu

Autumn; The time of harvest and gathering together

The early mornings are now darker and the temperature is dropping… but the leaves are turning beautiful vibrant shades of red, orange and yellow to remind us of how beautiful the autumn season is, despite the grey weather.

As we start to dust off our scarfs and pack away our flip flops, our eating habits tend to turn to heartier, warming food to comfort us during the transition into the cooler months.

Across the country, farms and orchards are bustling with activity, with October being the prime time to harvest and gather crops before the harsh cold weather kicks in.

To mark the turn of the season, we have launched our new Autumn Menu, created using the finest ingredients from our fantastic local suppliers.

Our experienced team of chefs have taken advantage of the delicious seasonal flavours and produce the local area has to offer, to create a tasty new autumn and gluten free menu, we know our customers will love.

When we asked our Head Chef, Chris, what his favourite dish from the new autumn menu is, this is what he had to say…

“My favourite dish is most definitely the smoked haddock, salmon and crayfish fishcake. It’s so simple and traditional, yet super tasty. You can’t go wrong.”

However, Deputy Manager, Emily said for her, the perfect comfort dish on the menu is the homemade steak, mushroom and ale pie.

“I love any kind of pie, savoury or sweet, pastry is my favorite thing! I like how our steak, mushroom and ale pie is a proper pie with all the encompassing pastry and not just a lid. The ultimate comfort food for this weather”

Our delicious homemade pie is made with high quality British beef and served with mash potato, local seasonal vegetables and rich gravy; the ultimate hearty dish to enjoy whilst catching up with friends and family, before tucking into one of our tantalising desserts.

Alongside our new menu, we also offer our ever-popular specials board that includes seasonal game dishes, sourced locally by expert suppliers; One supplier being Chanctonbury Game, based in West Sussex who pride themselves on carefully selecting only the best quality, country reared produce including venison, grouse, partridge, pheasant, rabbit, pigeon and wild boar.

There’s always room for dessert… and that’s a good job as we have a variety of sweet treats to tempt you with. Pub Manager, Claudia’s personal favourite is the honeycomb cheesecake.

“It’s literally THE BEST I have ever tasted! And I have tasted a lot of cheesecake…”

So what takes your fancy? Warm chocolate brownie drizzled with chocolate sauce or maybe our selection of English cheeses, with chutney, grapes and seeded biscuits , for those of you with less of a sweet tooth.

We also offer incredibly yummy gluten free options including vanilla and raspberry crème brûlée, to ensure everyone at your table can enjoy their guilty pleasures.

Don’t forget, as well as our new menu, we also have plenty of offers throughout the week, including our weekly changing Mid-Week Menu and Gin Wednesday’s.
